"Shaman Hadi" by Robin Wijnen Riems

This is my graduation project from Breda University of Applied Sciences, that spanned 4.5 months. Drawing inspiration from my Indonesian heritage and my passion for animals and fantasy creatures, I embarked on a journey to create a unique character.
The aim was to design a character that blends the majesty of male orangutans with the elegance of traditional Indonesian clothing and a touch of fantasy. For my personal growth, I focused on developing realistic-looking characters, enhancing my sculpting skills, the creation and use of hair cards, and learning to sculpt and create clothing.
I sculpted the character in ZBrush and handled the modeling in Maya. The texturing process was completed in Substance Painter, while the hair cards were crafted in Fibershop and placed using IMM brushes in ZBrush. The base shapes for the clothing were designed in Marvelous Designer, with additional folds and details sculpted in ZBrush.
Initially, I hadn't planned on rigging, but it proved to be the best way to pose the character effectively. The final renders were produced in Marmoset Toolbag, with environmental props sourced from Quixel.
This project has been a rewarding and transformative experience, allowing me to deepen my skills and bring a piece of my cultural and creative vision to life.
